The Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy has approved the “UmSenAuto” research network on the subject of environment sensors for autonomous vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Within the framework of the ZIM funding programme, the “Central Innovation Programme for SMEs”, the international network brings together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), research institutions and other partners to develop innovative solutions and ideas for the commissioning and safeguarding of vehicles. A total of 16 partners are involved in the project, including DAIMLER AG, research institutions such as ZeMA (Centre for Mechatronics and Automation Technology) or DFKI (German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence) as well as associations such as autoregion e.V..<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

About the network<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On the one hand, the automotive suppliers in the BeNeLux region are of great importance to the regions. They form the largest supplier cluster in Europe and provide around 140,000 jobs. The networking within the research network thus not only strengthens regional but also European competitiveness. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, there is the paradigm shift in the automotive industry: The automation of vehicles by sensors such as cameras, ultrasound or radar systems is already widespread. If one considers the development of autonomous driving, the number of sensors is drastically increased and the safety character of the latter increases. This is because a malfunction can have fatal consequences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consequently, an important task of the network is the efficient commissioning and functional validation of the sensors in the context of vehicle production. So far, there are no solutions to this problem, which have to be found in the projects. In the future, production must ensure that systems continue to function perfectly after assembly or repairs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The kick-off for the network will take place on 21 and 22 January 2020 in Saarbr\u00fccken. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
