What makes a networking event special is the coming together of multidisciplinary know-how, different expectations and different characters. During the two days kick-off, ideas and expectations were bundled and steered in the right direction. A successful start for UmSenAuto!

Importance of the network

Each individual partner from small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), from research, from corporate groups contributes its knowledge, its expectations and its commitment. As a result, quite different approaches to the problem were already crystallized during the two days. This exchange of knowledge, experience and expectations is not only essential for the participants, but also for the projects that will follow. Thus, projects can be formed beyond national borders, which explore the problem of safeguarding the environment sensors of autonomous vehicles. Why? The automotive industry is facing a paradigm shift: Vehicles are increasingly automated, even today (e.g. through parking aids, rain sensors, …). In the future, this automation will be developed more and more to the point of series production or further development. New technologies bring new automations with them. An important point is the guarantee of functionality and thus safety – the driver should be able to rely on this both during commissioning and after a repair. UmSenAuto is thus addressing a challenge of the automotive industry. This is of great importance for the BeNeLux region, because behind it stand a number of jobs that need to be secured. Summary of the two workshop days

Day 1: Getting to know and to understand each other

On January 21, 2020, the participants gathered in the halls of the Center for Mechatronics and Automation Technology (ZeMA) and were welcomed with a keynote lecture by Prof. Rainer Müller (Scientific Director of ZeMA). Among other things, he explained the subject matter and its special features. The first day focused on getting to know each other and team-building measures. In this way the competencies of the individual partners were determined and recorded. To round off the day, the group met in downtown Saarbrücken for a dinner typical for the Saarland region.

Day 2: Idea generation and concretisation

The second day offered the participants the opportunity to dive deeper into the subject matter. In this way, superordinate topics were already found, clustered and prioritized. The corresponding technologies could be determined and were discussed in groups. This resulted in the first network constellations and partners, who will work together on concrete projects in the following time. Afterwards autoregion e.V. invited to the New Year’s reception, where the two days could be reviewed together.

What’s next

The ideas are there, the participants are attuned to the topic – now it is time to get down to business. This means that the partners who have been found will come together again to develop their ideas and topics further and thus work together on concrete projects. We are already looking forward to this!
